BACKGROUND

Loma Community Conservation Program (LCCP ) was formed in December 2019, by a group of dynamic professionals from three (3) Chiefdoms. Nyedu Chiefdom, Nieni Chiefdom, Barawa, and Wollay Chiefdom’s in direct response to the pervasive poverty level and misuse of Loma Mountain every year.

It is a local non-governmental organization, non-profit making, non-partisan, non-tribal but independently impartial.  The formation of LCCP/SL was also aware of the negative press that local communities around Loma Mountain suffered for not creating sustainable livelihood and tourism activities around the Loma Mountain protected area.

It was intended that this organization would galvanize popular opinion around Loma Mountain in mobilizing resources and ensuring that Loma Mountain attracts tourism, private sector investments, and other environmental climate sustainability projects from the utilization of these resources.

This team of Sierra Leoneans is drawn from diverse backgrounds and from all walks of life who have gained valuable experience in and out of Sierra Leone.

They are highly motivated and focused, and their overriding aim is to make a difference in the lives of their communities.

This is intended to unleash, showcase, and promote our socio-cultural, socio-tourism, and agricultural potential while raising funds to create sustainable livelihoods for all the communities living around Loma Mountain Falaba District.

Through the supports of individual donations locally and internationally we were able to provide farm tools and seeds for five (5) cooperative women’s groups across the 3 chiefdoms around the
Loma Mountain communities.

We provided tools and seeds for five (5) local women’s cooperative groups to improve vegetable production and income generation; We completed capacity-building training in agronomic practices that will enhance women farmers to have bumper harvests in vegetable production and also provide seeds and tools inputs for them;

We also trained them on how to wash vegetable gardens and control pests. Over this period, we have engaged project target community stakeholders in a meeting and explained the concept of the project and how the project will create a positive impact in the District as a whole.

OUR OVERALL OBJECTIVES

  • The Paramount Chiefs and other community stakeholders will support LCCP to reinforce and strengthen the overall management of the Loma Mountain protected area.
